The US Expands Its Sanctions on an ISIS-Linked Financial Network

The Terrorist Financing Targeting Center (TFTC) announced new sanctions today on persons and entities supporting ISIS. This includes money-transfer companies closely linked to the Syrian regime, such as al-Haram.

The Center includes the US and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries and was announced in 2017.

Note that much of Syria's financial sector is already under US & EU sanctions. The significance of today's announcement stems from the inclusion of the GCC countries.

In 2010, according to the World Bank, 29% of Syria's remittances came from Saudi Arabia alone.
