New Document: Assad Reveals Contempt for Dutch Inquiry into Torture Allegations

In Sep 2020, the Netherlands notified Syria of its intention to hold it accountable under the Convention Against Torture.

As I show in this document, it turned out the Syrian regime had taken the threat seriously, forming a high-level committee to deal with it. The committee included Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Bashar Jaafari, the Deputy Minister of Justice, and a representative from the National Security Office, among others.

You might also want to know that each member of the committee was paid a game-changing sum. For example, Jaafari was paid a whopping $30 for attending seven sessions over six months.
