I argue that what happened in Syria over the past 10 days is quite simple: 

Turkey, Russia, and the US decided to pull the plug on Assad's house of cards and get Iran out of Syria.

To argue that what happened since 27 Nov wasn't broadly pre-planned is preposterous. 

The coming days will prove this further still.
